Presidential elections were held in Somaliland on 13 November 2017, the third direct presidential election since 2003. The result was a victory for Muse Bihi Abdi, who received 55% of the vote. Somaliland is a self-declared state, internationally considered to be an autonomous region of Somalia. Its independence remains unrecognised by any country or international organisation. The government of the de facto state of Somaliland regards itself as the successor state to the former British Somaliland protectorate.The capital and the largest city is Hargeisa, with the population of around 1,500,000 residents.
